{"id":55973,"date":"2018-08-27T06:50:40","date_gmt":"2018-08-27T04:50:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=55973"},"modified":"2018-08-26T11:41:08","modified_gmt":"2018-08-26T09:41:08","slug":"polytechnics-create-bioplastic-with-mango-peel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/polytechnics-create-bioplastic-with-mango-peel\/","title":{"rendered":"Polytechnics create bioplastic with mango peel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN, for its acronym in Spanish) developed a bioplastic based on mango peel with properties similar to conventional PET, which in the future could be used to create bottles, cutlery, plates and disposable cups.<\/p>\n<p>The objective of the students of the Center for Scientific and Technological Studies (CECyT, for its acronym in Spanish) 6 &#8220;Miguel Oth\u00f3n de Mendiz\u00e1bal&#8221; was to rescue organic waste to make a biodegradable material with a life time of six months, which is flexible and can be reused as fertilizer or compost, the IPN said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Karla Guadalupe G\u00e1mez Rangel and Mario Isaac Hern\u00e1ndez Hern\u00e1ndez, from the career of Chemical Laboratory Technician, used carbohydrates, proteins, cellulose, mango rind, corn starch and glycerin to create a biopolymer.<\/p>\n<p>Glycerin acts as a plasticizing agent, while &#8220;corn starch increases the volume of the free bonds of amylase and amylopectin, which provides flexibility and hardness to the bioplastic,&#8221; explained G\u00e1mez Rangel.<\/p>\n<p>To obtain the material, the polytechnics only collected mango peel of any kind, crush it and mix it with cornstarch and glycerin to obtain a viscous substance that is molded as required.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Students from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN, for its acronym in Spanish) developed a bioplastic based on mango peel with properties similar to conventional PET, which in the future could be used to create bottles, cutlery, plates and disposable cups.
