{"id":51882,"date":"2018-04-17T07:32:59","date_gmt":"2018-04-17T05:32:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=51882"},"modified":"2018-04-16T14:45:40","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T12:45:40","slug":"the-netherlands-looking-to-ban-oxo-degradable-plastics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/the-netherlands-looking-to-ban-oxo-degradable-plastics\/","title":{"rendered":"The Netherlands looking to ban oxo-degradable plastics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>After France and Spain implemented actions in 2017 to limit the production, distribution, sale, provision and utilization of packaging or bags made from oxo-degradable plastics \u2013 conventional plastics that falsely claim to biodegrade \u2013 the Netherlands now, too, has announced plans for a complete ban of oxo-degradable plastics.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cA ban on oxo-plastics that fall apart into microplastics is an important step in the fight against pollution,\u201d said Suzanne Kr\u00f6ger, Member of the Dutch Parliament and GroenLinks, the party that submitted the proposal in the Lower House.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement followed a report by the European Commission earlier in January this year announcing plans to restrict the use of these materials in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The use of oxo-degradable plastics for bags, bottles and labels is on the rise in different areas of the world.
