{"id":51594,"date":"2018-04-06T07:00:53","date_gmt":"2018-04-06T05:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rss.nova-institut.net\/public.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.biofuelsdigest.com%2Fbdigest%2F2018%2F03%2F27%2Feuropean-farmers-union-push-for-biofuels-ahead-of-triologue-talks-on-redii%2F"},"modified":"2018-03-29T13:56:50","modified_gmt":"2018-03-29T11:56:50","slug":"copa-and-cogeca-outline-key-elements-for-a-successful-eu-climate-and-energy-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/copa-and-cogeca-outline-key-elements-for-a-successful-eu-climate-and-energy-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Copa and Cogeca outline key elements for a successful EU climate and energy policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ahead of trilogue talks between the EU institutions on the EU\u2019s renewable energy plans, Copa\u00a0and Cogeca call for a stable long-term policy to maximise the potential of crop-based biofuels to\u00a0decarbonise the transport sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Copa and Cogeca have adopted an updated position on the promotion of EU renewable energy.\u00a0Copa and Cogeca Secretary-General Pekka Pesonen said \u201cThe EU will need to rely on crop-based\u00a0biofuels post 2020 in order to meet the EU\u2019s ambitious climate and energy targets and to ensure\u00a0greenhouse gas savings from the transport sector\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cWe need real blending rates that ensure renewables replace fossil fuels, not a policy that uses\u00a0artificial multipliers to inflate the results and give the impression of success whilst increasing the\u00a0EU\u2019s dependence on fossil fuels\u201d, Pesonen added.<br \/>\nOutlining key points needed for a successful policy, he urged the EU to maintain at 7 % until\u00a02030 the maximum share for crop-based biofuels used in transport. There also needs to be a binding blending obligation on fuel suppliers of at least 14%, without technological restrictions.\u00a0The contribution of palm oil and its derivatives to the EU\u2019s climate and environmental objectives\u00a0should be rejected too as long as sustainability problems such as deforestation in the country of\u00a0origin remain unresolved. \u201cEuropean agriculture should not take the blame for deforestation in\u00a0non-EU countries\u201d, Pesonen stressed.<br \/>\nFinally, Copa and Cogeca call for the removal of all multipliers that give a misleading picture of\u00a0the real environmental impact of renewable electricity in transport.
