The overall winners will be awarded joint development agreements with AkzoNobel to help bring their ideas to market.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-49737\" src=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/imchem_2018_timeline.jpg\" alt=\"imchem_2018_timeline\" width=\"556\" height=\"713\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2018\/01\/imchem_2018_timeline.jpg 780w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2018\/01\/imchem_2018_timeline-234x300.jpg 234w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2018\/01\/imchem_2018_timeline-600x769.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 556px) 100vw, 556px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 2018 edition calls for solutions within the following six areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imaginechemistry.com\/link\/e92f4715088740de82e2eb0dcd19fef0.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Sustainable small particle technologies<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imaginechemistry.com\/link\/c60fe269ce4c4a14a30b60cb56ca1bb7.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Wastewater-free chemical sites<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imaginechemistry.com\/link\/2ab858486eb740bfa12e02751add1033.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Intelligent chemical plants<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imaginechemistry.com\/link\/5ced8306ea7945afb2caf3b285ee7918.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Revolutionizing chlorate production<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imaginechemistry.com\/link\/17a54800dd104eff9a7e81302f72b8ba.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Sustainable powder technologies<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imaginechemistry.com\/link\/0292f0f8b8e343448ad64438852d961d.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Zero footprint surfactant platforms<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThis program has shown that startups and corporates can work together efficiently to break barriers in innovation, benefitting both sides,\u201d said Peter Nieuwenhuizen, Chief Technology Officer at AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals. \u201cWe had a tremendous response to Imagine Chemistry in 2017 and formed development partnerships with three winners based on ideas for more sustainable chemistry. We\u2019re now looking forward to uncovering new business opportunities through the 2018 challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Imagine Chemistry stands out in the industry due to its collaborative approach \u2013 all participants obtain tailored feedback from a range of company experts throughout the challenge to improve their solutions. The challenge is organized along with KPMG\u2019s innovation team, and is supported by ICOS capital fund and Lux Research. In addition, Chalmers University of Technology from Sweden has joined as a partner and will host the finals of the 2018 edition.<\/p>\n<p>One of last year\u2019s winners, Brian Miller of startup firm uFraction8, commented: \u201cAkzoNobel really thought the process through with us and made the collaboration work for both sides. Every facet of the company was represented and offered guidance and opinions and advice to help us shape everything into what became a winning proposal. That hands-on approach makes this challenge very unique.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Participants can already submit their ideas via a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imaginechemistry.com\/link\/8c97a7c7aa0f4839a7460cf46c228357.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">dedicated online community<\/a>, where they receive feedback and suggestions from experts throughout the submission phase.
