{"id":48138,"date":"2017-12-04T07:20:20","date_gmt":"2017-12-04T06:20:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=48138"},"modified":"2017-11-30T14:45:10","modified_gmt":"2017-11-30T13:45:10","slug":"braskems-sugarcane-based-bioplastic-to-be-used-to-package-leafgro-bags","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/braskems-sugarcane-based-bioplastic-to-be-used-to-package-leafgro-bags\/","title":{"rendered":"Braskem&#8217;s sugarcane based bioplastic to be used to package Leafgro bags"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Braskem&#8217;s I&#8217;m greenTM polyethylene (PE) and ProAmpac&#8217;s Trinity Packaging Division are bringing carbon reduction packaging to Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Maryland Environmental Service.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership allows Trinity Packaging to use Braskem&#8217;s \u2018I&#8217;m green\u2019 polyethylene (PE) as a sustainable packaging alternative for fossil fuel-based polyethylene bags.<\/p>\n<p>Braskem said that the collaboration will help Maryland&#8217;s Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Maryland Environmental Service (MES) to meet their CO2 reduction and environmental preservation goals.<\/p>\n<p>Said to be an eco-friendly alternative to fossil-fuel based bags, the \u2018I\u2019m green\u2019 PE bio-based resin is made from ethanol, a renewable resource produced from Brazilian sugarcane, to have a negative carbon footprint.<\/p>\n<p>Trinity Packaging plans to use Braskem&#8217;s PE solution to package over 500,000 bags of Leafgro brand, which will be sold in lawn and garden retail locations throughout the US East coast.<\/p>\n<p>The work will be a part of a contract awarded to Trinity Packaging by Maryland&#8217;s Montgomery County DEP compost facility contractor MES to convert Leafgro packaging to bioplastic.<\/p>\n<p>Under Montgomery County DEP\u2019s composting program, MES converts the organic wastes such as leaves and grass into soil conditioner resources that is sold under Leafgro brand.<\/p>\n<p>Braskem commercial manager Joe Jankowski said: \u201cWith the visionary leadership of the Maryland Montgomery County DEP, they are serving as a role model for other communities around the nation in taking proactive action across their environmental footprint to reduce carbon impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to bring Braskem\u2019s \u2018I\u2019m green\u2019 bioplastic to the county in order to replace the conventional oil-based packaging with an innovative bioplastic solution that aligns sustainable packaging with the environmental focus of the county and its residents.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Braskem&#8217;s I&#8217;m greenTM polyethylene (PE) and ProAmpac&#8217;s Trinity Packaging Division are bringing carbon reduction packaging to Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Maryland Environmental Service.
