This report contains 9 guiding principles and 8 policy recommendations for jobs and growth through bio-based products.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some of the recommendations are to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coordinate bioeconomy within overall EU policy framework and full revision of the bioeconomy strategy<\/li>\n<li>Further improve access to financing for investments in biorefinery projects<\/li>\n<li>Enable sustainability assessment of (bio-based) products<\/li>\n<li>Apply standards and labels for better evaluation by purchasers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The bioeconomy is already worth over \u20ac2.2 trillion while providing over 18 million jobs in Europe. It is a key contributor to Europe\u2019s jobs and growth agenda. In addition, it has the potential to add value, increase competitiveness in many of its sectors, and contribute to both rural and urban economies. Today the Commission&#8217;s expert group is presenting the outcomes of its 4 years mandate at the `Bioeconomy policy day\u2019 in Brussels.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Background<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/growth\/sectors\/biotechnology\/bio-based-products_en\" target=\"_blank\">Bio-based products<\/a> are made from renewable raw materials like straw, wood, algae, organic waste, etc. The increased use of bio-based products with enhanced sustainability profiles and new functionalities do not only help create jobs and stimulate growth.
