During her studies she analysed the potential uses of residual and waste materials to create an energy self-sufficient region in Baden-Wuerttemberg. Her thesis dealt with the energetic utilization of renewable resources and carbon dioxide emissions.

Barbara joined the nova-team already during her studies in 2012. Today, she is part of the scientific-staff in the department Technology and Markets. In addition to her activities in market research, Barbara is Editor at Bio-based News, nova-Institute’s news platform for the bio- and CO2-based economy and industrial biotechnology but her main focus is on Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU). For the second year in a row, she is project leader of the upcoming “5th Conference on Carbon Dioxide as Feedstock for Fuels, Chemistry and Polymers” taking place on 6-7 December 2016 in Cologne, Germany (http://co2-chemistry.eu). One of the leading events on CCU in the world. She is also involved in several projects concerning the area of CO2 capture and utilization.

Selected projects:

BioFoamBark – BioFoamBark aims at developing fully bio-based annin foams in order to substitute petroleum based foams. The tannins are extracted from the bark of prevalent softwood species in Europe. In this project, nova was responsible for the dissemination and conducting the techno-economic evaluation. BioFoamBark (Bark Valorisation into insulating Foams and Bioenergy, ERA-NET WoodWisdom and Bioenergy, project number 11NR207 / FKZ 22020711): 02/2012 – 01/2015

iBIB2014/15 – Since 2011, nova-Institute (Germany) publishes the “International Directory for Bio-based Businesses (iBIB)“ (http://www.bio-based.eu/iBIB) which provides easy and direct access to suppliers, products, services and experts of the bio-based economy worldwide. Barbara was project leader of the 5th edition (iBIB2014/15) and has coordinated all processes from customer interactions through to release and marketing.

Selected publications:

B.
