It motivates us to continue to get our technology further to the market&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The votes have all been counted and the winners of the inaugural\u00a0Bio-Based Innovation Awards (Europe) have been announced. After a two month process this continent-wide search for the most innovative bio-based chemicals and bio-based products\u00a0organised by Bio-Based World News we finally have our winners, both of whom received their awards at this week\u2019s Bio-Based Chemicals and Bio-Based Products event in Amsterdam.<\/p>\n<p>The winner of the Bio-Based Product of the Year (Europe) 2016 was the \u2018Greeny\u2019 a new line of Ice containers made from BioFoam\u00ae by Synbra and recently launched In Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the announcement of their win Peter Matthijssen, Commercial Manager, at Synbra Technology; \u201cThe last couple of years a lot of work has been done by Synbra \/ Synprodo in close cooperation with our Italian partners Sulpol and Greenevo to create a completely new bio-based and compostable icebox design for the Italian market. We were very glad to receive recognition by the jury and win this award, which is a real motivator for all the people involved. We believe it will contribute to the success of BioFoam\u00ae in the market and hope that many more products will follow in the coming years.\u201d<br \/>\nRunner up was Bioserie with their bio-based baby toys with Lumir\u2019s bio-fibre based acoustic coating to decrease reverberation indoors being voted Highly Commended.<\/p>\n<p>The winner of the Bio-Based Chemical Innovation of the Year (Europe) 2016 was BioBTX for their terephthalic acid from crude glycerine which has made it possible to convert waste streams, with high efficiencies into valuable products.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Niels Schenk, Chief Technology Officer at BioBTX on winning the award; \u201cBioBTX has developed technology to convert crude glycerin from biodiesel production into key chemical building blocks such as para-xylene. With these chemical building blocks, it is possible to make performance materials out of biomass. We are very honoured and proud that the international jury of independent industry experts selected us for the award! We have been working hard with a dedicated team of motivated people and it feels great to see our efforts rewarded. It motivates us to continue to get our technology further to the market. So make sure you follow our developments!<\/p>\n<p>Runner up was the Ohio Soybean Council with their patent-pending Soy-PK Reactive Oligomer Cross-Linker resin with Covestro\u2019s new bio-based crosslinker Desmodur\u00ae eco N 7300 being voted Highly Commended.<\/p>\n<p>Chair of the judges, Luke Upton, Editor of Bio-Based World News on the awards; \u201cWe have been delighted at the response to the launch of these Awards and it has really helped further spotlight the wonderful innovations featured on our news website and digital magazine. It\u2019s been fantastic to see such a variety of entries, and the judges had a really tough time choosing our winners, with only a few points between places. A big thanks to our judging panel and all the entrants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The judging panel was\u00a0Krijn Rietveld (Board Member, HollandBIO), \u00a0Christian Bolck (Programme Manager,\u00a0 Materials,\u00a0Wageningen UR &#8211; Food &amp; Biobased Research), Paul Hudman (Business Development Manager at Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre), Paul Cordfunke (Owner at CO3 Innovation to Profit &amp; Project Manager, BioDelta) and Luke Upton (Editor, Bio-Based World News).<\/p>\n<p>The winners received their trophies at a ceremony at the end of the second day, Wednesday 25th May of Bio-Based Chemicals and Bio-Based Products event in Amsterdam.
