At the conference, we will be ready to welcome visitors to Table#6 with samples and ideas for customer solutions, and we are looking forward to the presentation our colleague Mansoor Akhthar will make outlining the multifunctional and economic benefits obtained using our PHA biopolymers as performance additives for PVC and wood polymer composites.<\/p>\n<p>An estimated 38.5 million tons of PVC is consumed each year and 70% of it is used by the construction industry. So, you may be wondering\u2026Why is it that biobased PHA biopolymers could be useful in this space? At the 2012 Vinyltec meeting, we reported data showing that our amorphous PHA does something quite unique in PVC\u2014it is highly miscible with PVC meaning that these high molecular weight polymers mix together really well. The implications of this mixing are very interesting. The data we will present at Vinyltec 2015 highlights the many facets of using our PHA as an additive in PVC and in PVC-wood polymer composites. In summary, our PHA improves the processing of PVC, improves the mechanical performance of the end product, and can deliver cost savings in the formulation. Another key finding in our data is the ability of our PHA to enable the increased use of reprocessed PVC, PVC recyclate or wood flour filler in customer applications.
