{"id":28553,"date":"2015-09-16T03:12:34","date_gmt":"2015-09-16T01:12:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=28553"},"modified":"2015-09-14T16:09:47","modified_gmt":"2015-09-14T14:09:47","slug":"taiwan-executive-yuan-eyes-bioeconomy-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/taiwan-executive-yuan-eyes-bioeconomy-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Taiwan: Executive Yuan eyes bioeconomy development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A comprehensive plan aimed at spurring Taiwan\u2019s bioeconomy to NT$3 trillion (US$92.1 billion) in 2020 was unveiled Sept. 9 by the ROC Executive Yuan.<\/p>\n<p>Comprising agriculture, food, health care, medical instruments and pharmaceuticals, the initiative will leverage Taiwan\u2019s advantages in information and communications technology to create cross-industry synergies.<\/p>\n<p>Premier Mao Chi-kuo said biotechnology is set to become a major growth engine of local economy in the years ahead. \u201cFeaturing heightened integration with the government\u2019s population policies and Productivity 4.0 promotion, the plan is expected to boost public well-being while enhancing the nation\u2019s overall competitiveness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The premier made the remarks during a closing address at the 2015 Bio Taiwan Committee in Taipei City. He said the five-pronged scheme places equal emphasis on forward-looking innovation and realistic implementation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the health care sector, the government is driving full-scale integration across an array of services through the latest technological developments,\u201d he said. \u201cThe objective is to see a tenfold increase in remote care for seniors in five years, boosting related revenues to NT$1.4 trillion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This undertaking will be backed by the rollout of value-added ICT-enabled medical instruments, lifting sector output projects to over NT$200 billion by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Pharmaceuticals are to benefit from advances in health care services as well, Mao said. \u201cThe government is enhancing Taiwan\u2019s presence as a global hub of new medicine R&amp;D and value creation. By promoting vertical integration in the pharmaceutical industry, we expect to generate production value of more than NT$100 billion in five years while fostering three world-class flagship enterprises.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Taiwan\u2019s competitiveness in food and agriculture will continue to strengthen in the global marketplace. Through optimization of supply chains and industry environments, the forecast annual output for the two sectors should exceed NT$800 billion and NT$600 billion, respectively, under the five-year plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven Taiwan\u2019s success in pioneering technological innovations like big data and Internet of Things, we view cutting-edge biotechnology as providing fresh impetus for the nation\u2019s ICT-based economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are high hopes that this initiative will realize Taiwan\u2019s industrial upgrade and create a new range of products tailored to meet the needs of consumers in the 21st century.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A comprehensive plan aimed at spurring Taiwan\u2019s bioeconomy to NT$3 trillion (US$92.1 billion) in 2020 was unveiled Sept. 9 by the ROC Executive Yuan.
