{"id":28472,"date":"2015-09-16T03:03:31","date_gmt":"2015-09-16T01:03:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=28472"},"modified":"2015-09-13T11:57:14","modified_gmt":"2015-09-13T09:57:14","slug":"enhanced-barrier-properties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/enhanced-barrier-properties\/","title":{"rendered":"Enhanced barrier properties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Fraunhofer ISC in W\u00fcrzburg, Germany, developed a new class of biobased and biodegradable materials called bioORMOCER\u00aes, which offer enhanced barrier properties for biobased packaging materials by providing better protection against oxygen and water vapour, and hence allow for the development of innovative, safe, and more sustainable packaging solutions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Upgrading commercial biopolymer films, for example, with bioORMOCER\u00ae layers increases the barrier properties of the films and opens up new market opportunities for biobased packaging, particularly in food packaging. bioORMOCER\u00ae materials feature high optical qualities, antimicrobial properties, and are biodegradable.
