His main areas of work at nova-Institute include the techno-economic evaluation of novel industrial processes and market research for fossil and renewable raw materials, food and feed markets and bio-based products.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Piotrowski has been working in numerous projects, e.g. for the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, on the assessment of the European bioeconomy in terms of biomass use and effects on employment and value added. Due to this work he has deep knowledge in the extraction and evaluation of international statistical databases such as Eurostat, FAOSTAT, USDA and others.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he has developed a new methodology for a rapid techno-economic evaluation of innovative industrial processes in the framework of the FP-project BIOCORE (<a href=\"http:\/\/bio-based.eu\/download\/?did=7548&amp;file=0\">http:\/\/bio-based.eu\/download\/?did=7548&amp;file=0<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h3>Dr. Piotrowski\u2019s background and expertise<\/h3>\n<p>Dr. Piotrowski has a background in agricultural science and received his doctoral degree from the University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart, Germany) at the Chair for Rural Development Theory and Policy. His dissertation on sustainable land use in China was conducted in a Sino- German research group. He has broad international experience in agriculture and the economics of value chain management in the agri-food sector.<\/p>\n<h3>Recent and ongoing projects that Dr. Piotrowski has been or is working on include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>MultiHemp<\/strong>, an FP7-project in which nova-Institute is conducting an integrated sustainability assessment of the envisaged hemp biorefinery based on a techno-economic analysis and a life cycle assessment (LCA) of the whole production chain.
