(Hempearth) has a contract in place to build an aircraft made almost entirely out of hemp and aims to fly the hemp plane this Fall or next Spring from Kitty Hawk, N.C., site of the Wright Brothers\u2019 historic take off. The hemp plane is a four-seater, two engine aircraft with a cruising speed a little over 210 miles per hour (340 kph), a wingspan of 36 feet (12 meters), that will be built from at least 75% hemp. And, the plan is for it to run completely on hemp biofuel.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hemp is a sustainable crop that needs no psticides or herbicides\u00a0to grow, so the plane would have a carbon footprint significantly smaller than that of standard planes.\u201d \u2013 Kesek<\/p>\n<p>Experts have tested the strength and durability of woven hemp material compared to fiberglass, the traditional material for aircrafts, and determined that in most cases hemp is as strong, or stronger, than fiberglass. Because hemp is a sustainable crop that needs no pesticides or herbicides to grow, the plane will have a carbon footprint significantly smaller than that of standard plane.<\/p>\n<p>Hemp is an incredible resource that is a vastly underused in our world. The first hemp plane is an amazing project in its own right, and is changing the future of the aircraft industry, which will have an extremely positive impact on our environment. The intention for this project is to create greater awareness about the importance of hemp to humanity and inspire even bigger hemp-based projects that can have a truly positive impact on earth.<\/p>\n<p>Hempearth is currently utilizing crowdfunding and sponsorships to achieve the funds necessary to successfully complete the project.
