Even by the EU\u2019s recent standards, however, the Juncker Commission has inherited a very shaky union. With youth unemployment still sky high, weekly warnings on Greece\u2019s financial woes, and the ever present threats of climate change and energy security, even the most committed Europhiles might struggle to look on the bright side.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, there are some reasons to be cheerful. According to Karl Falkenberg, Director General for the Environment at the European Commission, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that the EU green technology sector has played a significant role in carrying Europe through the present crisis.
