This is a significant win for the country, which is vying to become the global hub for bioplastics manufacturing.<\/strong><span id=\"more-5233\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The new industrial estate will take advantage of Thailand\u2019s naturally abundant sugercane that is used as feedstock to manufacture bioplastics.<\/p>\n<p>Supatanapong Punmeechaow, CEO and President of PTTGC, said: \u201cWe are planning to locate the industrial estate in the central region, where farmers grow a plenty of sugarcane\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Through the new joint venture, the firms expect to invest about $143 million.<\/p>\n<p>It will take about 30 months to complete construction of the industrial estate and start production.<\/p>\n<p>The deal will be finalised this year, reports business news website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dealstreetasia.com\/stories\/thailands-pttgc-to-set-up-143m-jv-for-bio-plastic-industrial-estate-10157\">DealStreetAsia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand is currently vying to become the global hub for bioplastics manufacturing, although other countries in the region have also introduced incentivises for bioplastics manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p>PPTGC hopes this new joint venture will help the country win this race.<\/p>\n<p>In May, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.natureworksllc.com\">NatureWorks<\/a>, one of the world\u2019s largest suppliers of polymers, said it would be choose between Thailand and Malaysia as the location of its new $200-million polylatic acid (PLA) production plant.<\/p>\n<p>Punmeechaow said: \u201cIf we can make this bio-plastic hub happen, I am sure that NatureWorks will choose to set up\u2026 [its] manufacturing plant in Thailand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Thai Government has previously supported the local bioplastics industry. Earlier this year the <a href=\"http:\/\/newmaterialsnews.com\/industry-news\/thailand-to-produce-bioplastics-from-rice-following-decrease-in-production\">Ministry of Commerce bought 10,000 tonnes of stockpiled rice<\/a> to produce bioplastics products.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) has partnered with one of Thailand\u2019s largest suger producers to set up the country\u2019s first bioplastic industrial estate.
