{"id":25897,"date":"2015-05-08T03:21:58","date_gmt":"2015-05-08T01:21:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=25897"},"modified":"2015-05-07T12:36:47","modified_gmt":"2015-05-07T10:36:47","slug":"new-rsb-standard-for-low-iluc-biofuels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/new-rsb-standard-for-low-iluc-biofuels\/","title":{"rendered":"New RSB Standard for low iLUC Biofuels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) released draft \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rsb.org\/pdfs\/standards\/RSB-STD-03-001%20-%20ver%200.1%20RSB%20Low%20iLUC%20Criteria%20&amp;%20Indicators.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Low iLUC Risk Biomass Criteria and Compliance Indicators<\/a>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>By complying with this new criteria, producers will be able to demonstrate that biomass was produced with no indirect impact on food production or biodiversity. For example, they could do this through an increase in yield, intercropping, using unused\/degraded land, or waste\/residue materials.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new criteria and indicators will form the basis of an add- on module to the RSB standard for biofuels and bio-products is based on the Low Indirect Impact Biofuels (LIIB) Methodology, developed in collaboration with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Ecofys.<\/p>\n<p>RSB-certified operators that comply with the new criteria and compliance indicators will be entitled to an extra \u201clow iLUC risk\u201d on-product claim.<\/p>\n<p>The new iLUC standard is undergoing consultation with RSB members and will be finalized by the Assembly of Delegates at the June 1st General Assembly meeting in Geneva. The draft is currently available on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rsb.org\" target=\"_blank\">www.rsb.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rolf Hogan, RSB\u2019s Executive Director, said \u201cThis new low iLUC standard will allow certain producers to show they generate biofuels crops which do not impact food security and natural habitat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to publish these proposals for comment, as the European Parliament recently accepted the \u2018iLUC amendment\u2019, which includes provisions for low iLUC biofuels,\u201d said Hogan.<\/p>\n<p>Companies may contact the RSB Secretariat (<a href=\"mailto:info@rsb.org\" target=\"_blank\">info@rsb.org<\/a>) for details on preparing for the low iLUC audit process.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>About RSB<\/h3>\n<p>The Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) is a global movement to ensure the sustainability of biomaterials production through a comprehensive certification system.
