The goal of this partnership is to accelerate the realization of a sustainable bio-based economy in the Netherlands. The collaboration builds on earlier investments and strengthen the international leadership position of the Netherlands as a business and manufacturing base for the biobased industry.

The four parties of the MoU will cooperate to build the necessary infrastructure for biomass processing. For this industrial clusters are connected to energy suppliers and integrated biorefineries. The MoU focuses on the region of Rotterdam (Maasvlakte 2), West Brabant (Moerdijk), Zeeland (Borssele) and Eemsdelta (Delfzijl / Eemshaven).

“This partnership is very important to achieve good business cases for the industry,” said Sederel. “That’s what a sustainable bio-based economy is all about.” Zoetemeyer hereby concludes: “It is good that BE-Basic, Biobased Delta, Biobased Delta ZH and Eemsdelta Green jointly exploit the biorefinery development in the Netherlands in this way.” Van der Wielen light the role of BE-Basic commented: “BE-Basic Foundation supports this important development asset through our RD & I programming. The plans will be implemented in close consultation with and through industrial clusters, knowledge and the Dutch government. ”

Benefits of biobased

Biomass can be processed into various materials, chemicals, fuel and energy, produce less harmful to the environment than in the processing of fossil fuels. The partners strive for a balanced non-energetic (chemistry, materials, food) and energy use (transport fuels, electricity, heat) from biomass focused on maximum economic value and environmental impact, with priority to those sectors without alternatives such as chemistry and aviation.

About BE-Basic Foundation

BE-Basic Foundation is an international public-private partnership involving 50 partners are connected. BE-Basic develops sustainable industrial biobased solutions to make the transition from a fossil-based economy to a bio-based economy possible. Industrial parties working within and outside the Netherlands together with universities and research institutes in the field of biotechnology, ecology and social sciences. Eemsdelta Green is a coalition of parties in the Eemsdelta (Delfzijl / Eemshaven), knowledge institutions and provincial government, aimed at initiating and accelerating green projects and connecting the agricultural sector with industry / chemistry.

About Biobased Delta Foundation

The Bio-based Delta works with the provinces of Zeeland, North Brabant and South Holland with SMEs, multinationals and universities to develop a biobased economy. Southwest Netherlands herein leader and the Biobased Delta wants to strengthen this position. The three focal points of the Delta are green materials, green building blocks and sustainable process industries.
