Businesses and governments to strengthen the bio-economy in eastern Netherlands. The eastern Dutch manufacturing industry is investing heavily in the bio-economy. As a result, the economic position and employment strengthened in the region, the manufacturing industry in eastern Netherlands dependent on fossil fuels, and reduce CO2 emissions.

Since this year, more and more companies working with the Bioeconomy Innovation Cluster East Netherlands (BIC ON). BIC-ON is a cluster of companies, research institutions and governments that accelerate together Biobased developments in the provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel by working on innovations with fiber, sludge, manure, algae or fresh biomass. These innovations lead to “new” materials for applications such as bio-energy, bio-materials for paper, cardboard, construction, textiles and plastics, food or even pharmaceuticals.

Subsidy

From GreenTechAlliances seven BIC ON projects supported by the grant. Companies invest in joint approximately € 1.7 million Provincial Council of Gelderland have decided to make available a grant for the following projects.:

“Working paper sludge to pyrolysis oil and minerals for reuse in the paper (eg Alucha Management, max € 250.000, – Grant). In this project, a pilot plant designed, built and tested with paper sludge through pyrolysis is converted into bio-oil and minerals for reuse in paper. The project is a prelude to an industrial scale. If successful, can be recycled approximately 120,000 tons Gelder paper sludge in this way.

“Optimization of the value of cattle manure (Foundation Biomass, max. € 79,150 grant). In this pilot project be made via a double manure separation three products: ligboxvulling, a mineral concentrate that replaces the use of fertilizer, and a phosphate-rich waste stream. This separation occurs at the dairy farm. Only a small fraction of the manure, namely, the phosphate-rich manure stream is discharged, and elsewhere processed into biogas and a phosphate-rich product.

“Processing of duckweed and other green leaf mass to proteins for food, feed and non-food applications (ABC Kroos, max. € 342,160 grant). This investment in a pilot plant supplies pure proteins from duckweed, in volumes suitable for testing in the food industry. The technology is also useful for refining of other protein-rich biomass. The investment will take place at the research center Protein Research, on the business Laarberg in Groenlo.

“Realization experimental sites for sustainable manure (Foundation Biomass, max. € 282,070 grant). In this project, an experimental site is developed and realized quickly that, for shorter or longer term, innovative concepts and systems for the processing of manure and related solutions can be installed, tested, operated and optimized.

Business Cases circular water and raw materials factory Supporters’ (Water Valley and Veluwe max. € 78,000 grant). In this project, in collaboration with waste processor Attero the feasibility of the first fully circular water treatment plant for the production of clean water, raw materials (humic acid, alginate, cellulose fibers, bio plastics) and energy.

‘ECOFERM: The circuits to a higher level “(ECOFERM Kroes BV, max € 100,000.). In this pilot some promising techniques are tested to prepare (food safe) algae / duckweed cultivation liquid from digestate, where the available energy from the fermentation minerals flow is dewatered, this water on the farm is reused for the production of protein-rich animal feed (duckweed / algae), and minerals in high form leave the farm.

“Technological through development and realization of new product-market combinations with bio-coal ‘(Topell Energy, max. € 438,700). Topell has acquired a leading position in the field of biomass torrefaction technology. In this project, new product-market combinations are tested and further developed to bring then to the market, for example, local bioenergy production and chemistry.

The Provincial Council of Gelderland agreed to the provision of € 1.6 million grant for seven groundbreaking bio-based innovations.
