The premise is that the stem material in a possible part of the year is processed into pulp. Normally is the residual material especially peaks available in the autumn, when the greenhouses are removed. “We have tomato stems at the end of last year ensiled in order to examine whether the quality of the stem fiber is retained. The silage stalks in August removed and chopped into pulp and processed. 200,000 cartons can be made about them now”, says Smits.<\/p>\n Initial reactions to the sustainable packaging are positive. The box has to be proven in practice, but tests show that the quality is just as important as conventional packaging properly. The biobased box is even slightly stronger. The production of the carton is slightly more expensive in comparison to the current packaging. The tributaries should be to get the business model around also used for other applications. This could include, inter alia, to proteins and sugars.
