This week was at Avans the official start of the project subsidized by SIA Touch. “It must be the first real biobased bridge in the Netherlands, even the world. A bridge made entirely of natural materials, “says project manager Douwe-Frits Broens of the CoE BBE. The expertise which Avans Hogeschool Zeeland and investigate the Terneuzen planned cyclist and pedestrian bridge.<\/p>\n
The special thing about this project is that the entire bridge, with a span of 30 meters, consists of flax fiber, bio-foam and bioharsen. Co-project manager Alwin Hoogendoorn: “The construction of this bridge was not done twenty times before. It is a ‘first of a kind’. The CoE BBE plays a major role in the research process. It’s really a matter of doing. Sometimes it’s like Edison. Tampering and tinkering in a shed. We can not just pick some bricks and start building. There is a lot more to it. ”<\/p>\n
The idea around a biobased bridge does not stand alone. There is a cooperation between the regions of West-Brabant and Zeeland, the so-called Biobased Delta. Multinationals, SMEs, governments and research institutions from Southwest Netherlands focus namely along the biobased economy. “The biobased bridge hemp and flax is a great test case.
