As part of their work on the use of Industrial Biotechnology, the BIO-TIC partners seek input from key stakeholders from the European industry.

You will find in attachment the 2-page announcement of the workshop focusing on the uptake of industrial biotechnology as a basis for use of CO2 as a feedstock. Your participation would be highly welcomed by the BIO-TIC project partners. The workshop is free of charge.

Please register at www.bio-tic-workshops.eu/carbon_dioxide/home

Funded by the European Commission, BIO-TIC was launched, as an FP7 project, with the aim to establish an overview of the opportunities and barriers to biotechnology innovation and propose approaches to address them. The project started in 2012 and will be completed by mid-2015.

More information can be found on the project website: www.industrialbiotech-europe.eu/

As a major milestone in the project, the partners have recently released the second draft version of 3 roadmaps (Market roadmap, Technological roadmap, Non-technological roadmap) that can be downloaded from the project website. In a nutshell:

The market roadmap aims at providing a comprehensive overview of the market potential for industrial biotechnology and of the value chain composition and stakeholders in various product segments.

The technology roadmap aims to gain insight into the R&D related hurdles that are impeding the full realization of Europe’s IB market potential in 2030. In addition, the roadmap seeks to set priorities in terms of R&D and other actions to overcome the R&D hurdles.

The non-technological roadmap aims to identify regulatory and non-technological hurdles that may inhibit innovation and prevent the realization of the market and technological potential of IB. Furthermore, the non-technological roadmap seeks to propose solutions to these hurdles by confronting theory and practice.

The current version of the roadmap is based on an extensive literature study and the subsequent stakeholder consultation on its findings during eight regional workshops and more than 60 expert interviews. As a result, the project partners have selected 5 product segments and applications that can benefit from Industrial Biotechnology and promise significant potential for Europe’s industry and society by 2030: CO2-based chemicals, Biosurfactants, Bio-plastics PHA and PLA, Building blocks, Bio-fuels.

A summary of the project findings with regard to CO2-based chemicals is attached.

The workshop on September 24, 2014 in Lyon aims at receiving input from key stakeholders of the industry and value-chain, which will provide the necessary comments and additional information to complete the BIO-TIC project by mid-2015.

Similar events will be held by the end of 2014 for the other four business cases.

With best regards,

Achim Raschka

More information

BIO-TIC – CO2 workshop flyer

IB for Use of CO2 as a Feedstock Summary

Dear Expert, the FP7 consortium BIO-TIC is organizing a workshop on “CO2-based chemicals” on September 24, 2014 in Lyon.
