{"id":18215,"date":"2013-11-26T03:12:03","date_gmt":"2013-11-26T01:12:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=18215"},"modified":"2013-11-25T20:56:31","modified_gmt":"2013-11-25T18:56:31","slug":"new-900m-turnover-target-biotech-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/new-900m-turnover-target-biotech-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"New \u00a3900m turnover target for biotech sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new strategy, announced by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottish-enterprise.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Scottish Enterprise<\/a>, is designed to capture a larger share of a global market which is worth \u00a3360bn.<\/p>\n<p>Forty Scottish companies are involved in industrial biotechnology (IB) projects in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Scottish Enterprise hopes to develop the area by &#8220;building on Scotland&#8217;s existing expertise&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The business development body said it planned to encourage &#8220;more sustainable manufacturing processes and more businesses to diversify into this growing market&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>It highlighted skills shortages and industry awareness as being among the areas which needed to be addressed.<\/p>\n<p>The strategy was unveiled at the Ecochem conference in Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>The head of chemical sciences at Scottish Enterprise, Caroline Strain, said: &#8220;The rise in global population, rapid depletion of resources, increasing environmental pressures and climate change are each driving the need to develop more sustainable manufacturing processes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Investing in industrial biotechnology can help us achieve that.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Supporting more companies, both at home and overseas, to invest in IB technology in Scotland is a priority for us.
