Godavari Biorefineries<\/a> has been granted a European<\/a> patent for its invention, a biofiller for rubber reinforcement. The development expands the company\u2019s renewable chemistry portfolio into advanced industrial materials.<\/p>\n\n\n

The patented biofiller is made from lignocellulosic biomass. It\u2019s designed as a biodegradable, eco-friendly alternative for rubber reinforcement. The material can partially replace conventional carbon black in tyres and other rubber products while maintaining or improving key mechanical properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carbon black is widely used in rubber compounds for strength, durability and performance. Developing renewable alternatives that match those properties remains a significant materials science challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biofiller has potential applications across tyres, footwear, belts, bags and other industrial rubber goods. Its manufacturing process is designed to be scalable, offering both environmental and economic benefits by reducing dependence on fossil-based reinforcing materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samir Somaiya, chairman and managing director of Godavari Biorefineries, said the company has always viewed biomass as a starting point for new products, not simply a feedstock. He noted that the real challenge is proving a bio-based alternative can perform reliably in real-world applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Sangeeta Srivastava, executive director and co-inventor of the patent, said developing a biofiller that partially replaces carbon black while maintaining comparable performance is a significant materials science achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
