The agreement includes requirements for greenhouse gas emissions savings significantly above the minimum threshold for RFNBO compliance, demonstrating Kass\u00f8\u2019s ability to supply renewable fuels with a substantially lower carbon footprint than their fossil-based alternatives and in compliance with the newly implemented third European renewable energy directive (RED III) for road transport in several European countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to welcome another off-taker for our e-methanol produced in Kass\u00f8. \u00a0This multi-year commitment demonstrates that there is a real and growing market for renewable methanol as companies strive for compliance with REDIII and look for credible ways to reduce emissions from fuels and industrial processes. For Kass\u00f8, the agreement is another important commercial validation. We have proven that e-methanol can be produced on an industrial scale. The next step is building a broad and diversified customer base, and adding a company of OMV\u2019s scale and industrial experience is a strong contribution to that development,\u201d \u00a0said <strong>Ren\u00e9 Alcaraz Frederiksen,\u00a0EVP and Head of Power-to-X in\u00a0European Energy.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis agreement with OMV marks another important milestone for the Kass\u00f8 e-methanol project. It demonstrates that e-methanol is evolving into a practical low-carbon solution across a broad range of industries. In addition to marine fuel and chemical applications,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/europeanenergy.com\/2026\/06\/02\/e-methanol-transport-decarbonisation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">demand is now emerging in the transportation fuel sector<\/a>, reflecting the growing recognition of e-methanol as a viable pathway to decarbonization. We believe e-methanol can provide customers with a realistic and scalable option to reduce emissions while leveraging existing infrastructure and supply chains,\u201d said <strong>Tadaaki Ito, General Manager for Methanol and Ammonia Division in Mitsui &amp; Co., Ltd.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>With the first delivery of e-methanol to OMV completed, the agreement is already being implemented<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the fourth publicly announced offtake agreement connected to the Kass\u00f8 e-methanol facility \u2013 \u00a0following agreements with A.P. Moller \u2013 Maersk, the LEGO Group and Novo Nordisk &#8211; Which together demonstrate demand for e-methanol across several industries and applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kass\u00f8 e-methanol facility was inaugurated in May 2025 and has an annual production capacity of 42,000 tonnes. Located next to the 304 MW Kass\u00f8 Solar Park, the facility combines renewable electricity with biogenic CO\u2082 to produce e-methanol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The facility represents the first commercial-scale e-methanol production of its kind and provides industrial customers with access to a renewable alternative to fossil-based methanol.
