The transaction will help accelerate the development of infrastructure designed to connect industrial emitters in the Amsterdam region and other parts of the Netherlands and Germany with permanent geological storage sites beneath the North Sea seabed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carbon capture is one of the solutions available to manage hard to abate emissions from industrial sectors that need to decarbonise. However, its large-scale deployment requires infrastructure capable of collecting captured CO\u2082, aggregating volumes from different emitters and transporting them to permanent storage sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SeaSeaS Amsterdam aims to become Western Europe\u2019s first open-access CO\u2082 export terminal. It will be able to handle CO\u2082 from both biogenic and non-biogenic sources. It is being designed to handle up to 3.5 million tonnes per year and receive CO\u2082 by vessel, rail, road or pipeline. From Amsterdam, the CO\u2082 will be transported by sea to permanent storage sites across the North Sea.This multimodal model will give companies of different sizes access to the carbon capture and storage value chain, including those without a direct pipeline connection. The terminal is expected to become operational in 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exolum\u2019s participation will bring to the project its experience in developing and operating large scale logistics infrastructure, together with its expertise in the transportation and storage of liquid products. These capabilities will support the development of a safe terminal that can expand as demand grows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Nacho Casaj\u00fas, Senior Vice President of Exolum Global Energy Logistics,<\/strong> said: \u201cCarbon capture can only be deployed at scale if the infrastructure is in place to connect industrial emitters efficiently with different permanent storage sites. SeaSeaS Amsterdam has the potential to become an important part of that value chain in Northern Europe, which is expected to grow significantly in scale. This project is fully aligned with our strategy of developing infrastructure that supports industrial decarbonisation and energy transition for our customers. It also complements our existing developments in CO\u2082 logistics and storage in CCUS value chains in both Spain and the UK\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kees van Seventer (CEO) and Peter Boers (COO), founders of SeaSeaS<\/strong>, said: \u201cCarbon capture and permanent storage can make a direct contribution to reducing industrial emissions. To achieve this, however, companies need access to efficient infrastructure that can accommodate different types of emitters. Our ambition is to develop an open-access terminal in Amsterdam that connects industry across inland Europe with storage sites in the North Sea. Exolum\u2019s involvement will strengthen the project and help move it closer to becoming operational.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Port of Amsterdam offers a strategic location for the development of this logistics chain due to its connections with major industrial areas in the Netherlands and Germany. Initially, the terminal will enable CO\u2082 to be transported to permanent storage sites.
