The <a href=\"https:\/\/hiccups.eu\">HICCUPS project<\/a> is answering this question by developing an innovative process that converts biogenic CO\u2082 into polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) \u2014 a fully bio-based and biodegradable polymer with the potential to replace fossil-based plastics in food packaging.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The international HICCUPS consortium is bringing together experts from research and industry to develop the complete value chain, from capturing CO\u2082 at wastewater treatment plants and converting it electrochemically into monomer building blocks, to producing and testing high-performance packaging materials.
