These advantages will strengthen Catalyxx\u2019s position as a leading bio-based chemicals company while supporting the security of supply, decarbonization, and competitiveness of the European chemical sector. The project will also reinforce Portugal\u2019s growing role as a leader in sustainable industrial innovation and advanced manufacturing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The facility will produce&nbsp;<strong>butanol, hexanol and octanol from bioethanol<\/strong>, offering the market a low-carbon alternative to conventional petrochemical production routes, while maintaining full compatibility with existing industrial applications and value chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project has been granted&nbsp;<strong>Project of National Interest (PIN)<\/strong>&nbsp;status by the Portuguese Government, recognizing its strategic contribution to domestic industrial development, innovation, sustainability and economic growth, and affording the project an accelerated regulatory approval process. In addition, the project has already secured its key<strong>environmental approvals,<\/strong>&nbsp;representing another major milestone and further reinforcing its readiness to move into the construction phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The&nbsp;<\/strong>Catalyxx Ib\u00e9rica&nbsp;<strong>project represents the next stage in Catalyxx\u2019s industrial journey.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company\u2019s demonstration facility in Sevilla, Spain has enabled Catalyxx to validate its proprietary catalytic process under continuous operating conditions, generate extensive operational data, and develop the expertise required to support industrial scale-up. The Sines plant builds directly on this foundation, and will serve as the&nbsp;<strong>launchpad for Catalyxx\u2019s global expansion in low-carbon chemicals and fuels.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is advancing through its final development phase, with construction slated to begin by Q4 2026. Engineering activities are being carried out with the support of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worley.com\/en\/about-us\"><strong>Worley<\/strong><\/a><strong>,&nbsp;<\/strong>a global company of energy, chemicals and resources experts, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/quadranteglobal.com\/\"><strong>Quadrante<\/strong><\/a>, a leading international consultancy in engineering, architecture, environment and sustainability, with both companies contributing to the project\u2019s execution and industrial readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The development of Catalyxx Ib\u00e9rica is supported by a combination of&nbsp;<strong>private investment and public funding<\/strong>. Among its recent milestones, Catalyxx was awarded&nbsp;<strong>\u20ac20 million in funding from the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU)<\/strong>, reinforcing the strategic relevance of the project and its contribution to Europe\u2019s industrial decarbonization and supply chain security objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is expected to catalyze significant additional private and institutional investment into Portugal, creating a multiplier effect across the country\u2019s industrial ecosystem and supporting the development of new sustainable value chains.
