Using pot ale extracts value from the whisky by-products and reduces the amount sent to animal feed or anaerobic digestion, the process by which organic material is broken down into CO<sub>2 <\/sub>and methane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bio-based chemicals that Celtic produces are chemically equivalent to fossil-based chemicals and can be used in the manufacturing of thousands of everyday consumer goods \u2013 everything from skin moisturisers and household cleaning products to paint and bike tyres.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"694\" height=\"429\" src=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2026\/04\/Bildschirmfoto-2026-04-14-um-13.46.46.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-175881\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2026\/04\/Bildschirmfoto-2026-04-14-um-13.46.46.png 694w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2026\/04\/Bildschirmfoto-2026-04-14-um-13.46.46-300x185.png 300w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2026\/04\/Bildschirmfoto-2026-04-14-um-13.46.46-150x93.png 150w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2026\/04\/Bildschirmfoto-2026-04-14-um-13.46.46-400x247.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 694px) 100vw, 694px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 Rosebank<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>With the pot ale supplied by Rosebank, Celtic Renewables can produce green chemicals that generate over 60 percent carbon savings when compared to their fossil-based counterparts, using a circular process that repurposes residues from distilling whisky instead of using fossil fuels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The innovative process allows consumer goods firms and manufacturers to partly defossilise their supply chain and cut their indirect Scope 3 emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ian Macleod Distillers\u2019 partnership with Celtic is one part of the company\u2019s wider commitment to sustainability for its entire portfolio of distilleries across Scotland. Other measures include exploring renewable energy with a carbon neutral distillery operation at its Edinburgh Gin distillery: the creation of wetlands at the Glengoyne Distillery estate: wildlife protection measures at Tamdhu, Speyside: and support from two important environmental charities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ongoing relationship between the two firms is testament to the Grangemouth area\u2019s commitment to the net zero transition, creating a truly circular economy, and bolstering the region\u2019s low-carbon industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Commenting on the partnership, <strong>Bettina Brierley, Chief Commercial Officer at Celtic Renewables,<\/strong> said, \u201cOngoing local partnerships like the one we have with Rosebank are the foundation for Scotland\u2019s low-carbon green economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith over four million tonnes of pot ale and stillage produced in Scotland annually, our efforts in Grangemouth are just the beginning and the room for growth in the low-carbon industry is huge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur work with Rosebank Distillery showcases the ability of companies to work together in innovative ways at local and regional level for a more sustainable circular way of life \u2013 a blueprint for the future green economy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Neil Bulloch, Distillery Manager at Rosebank Distillery<\/strong>, said, \u201cWorking with Celtic Renewables to take the pot ale by-product from Rosebank and create natural bio-chemicals for household use is part of our broader plan to sustainably manage our solid and liquid waste across our distilleries and to reduce the environmental impact of our operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe proximity of Grangemouth to the Rosebank Distillery in Falkirk also reduces the impact of transportation and supports our local community in Falkirk.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rosebank brand has recently enjoyed a trio of accolades. Last November, Rosebank 31-Year-Old was heralded as the \u2018Best Whisky in the World, after being awarded \u201cBest in Show\u201d at the prestigious 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosebank.com\/\">Rosebank Distillery<\/a>&nbsp;was named \u2018Tourism Destination of the Year\u2019 at the 2025 Scottish Whisky Awards, firmly establishing it as one of the country\u2019s most significant whisky experiences. The Award recognises the single most outstanding visitor experience in Scottish whisky tourism each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January 2026, His Majesty King Charles III enjoyed tasting \u2018the world\u2019s best whisky\u2019 \u2013 Rosebank 31YO \u2013 at a private reception attended by senior representatives of Ian Macleod Distillers and the First Minister of Scotland held at the Palace of Holyrood House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this month, Celtic Renewables secured&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.celtic-renewables.com\/16-23-million-investment-secured-for-new-biorefinery-in-grangemouth\/\">more than \u00a316 million in public and private funding<\/a>&nbsp;towards the planning and construction of a new \u00a3120M industrial-scale biorefinery in Grangemouth.<br><br>The funding comprises \u00a35 million in new investment from Scottish Enterprise, Scotland\u2019s national economic development agency: \u00a35 million from Celtic\u2019s existing private investors: and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.celtic-renewables.com\/6-23-million-in-funding-for-celtic-renewables-from-scottish-government\/\">\u00a36.23 million from the Grangemouth Just Transition Fund<\/a>, which Celtic received from the Scottish Government last December.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The partnership will see Rosebank Distillery in Falkirk send the pot ale by-product produced during its distilling process to the Celtic Renewables biorefinery located less than four miles away at Grangemouth.
