The partnership will enable the\u00a0scaling of\u00a0LOOM\u2019s proprietary\u00a0thermal chemical recycling platform designed to transform non-recycled and hard-to-recycle textile waste into sustainable\u00a0carbon-neutral\u00a0materials.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Global textile waste exceeds 92 million tons annually, with recycling rates at less than 15%.&nbsp;&nbsp;This new partnership addresses this fast-growing environmental challenge by advancing a credible pathway to textile circularity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LOOM Carbon\u2019s process converts mixed and contaminated textiles into high value outputs that can re-enter industrial supply chains, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Circular pigments and materials that replace fossil-derived inputs in textiles, coatings, and plastics\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carbon materials that can be integrated into cement, asphalt, and composites, supporting infrastructure decarbonization\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excess thermal energy that powers operations efficiently, reducing reliance on external sources\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These pathways&nbsp;demonstrate&nbsp;how textile waste can be recycled into durable, circular products rather than being landfilled or incinerated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Together with RTI, Loom is demonstrating that blended textile waste can be recycled into valuable resources,\u201d said <strong>Kimberly Landry, CEO of LOOM Carbon. <\/strong>\u201cThis collaboration moves us from pilot to commercial readiness proving textile waste is a resource, not a liability.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This project will take place at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rti.org\/focus-area\/RTI-Pilot-Xcelerator\">RTI\u2019s&nbsp;Pilot Xcelerator<\/a>&nbsp;facility, which helps startups, commercial&nbsp;partners&nbsp;and government-funded teams to scale promising technologies from the lab to real-world applications quickly, affordably and with confidence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to leverage RTI\u2019s world-class Pilot\u00a0Xcelerator\u00a0facility as well as our expertise in process engineering and emissions validation to help accelerate a proven, scalable solution to textile waste,\u201d said<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rti.org\/expert\/david-c-dayton\">David C. Dayton<\/a>, Ph.D., Senior\u00a0Fellow\u00a0and Director of Biofuels at RTI\u00a0International<\/strong>. \u201cTogether, we aim to deliver real, sustainable benefits as this technology moves toward commercial deployment.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The 12-month program will focus on scaling LOOM\u2019s system to process challenging textile waste streams,&nbsp;validating&nbsp;product quality, and preparing for commercial deployment. This will target the processing of millions of tons of textile waste annually in Southeast Asia, Europe, North&nbsp;America&nbsp;and other markets with emerging textile stewardship regulations.
