This is accomplished through markedly enhanced barrier properties, which display considerably lower oxygen permeability compared to previous materials. The food compliance of the biocompound has been confirmed in accordance with EU 10/2011 and the FDA. The translucent beige colour of M·VERA GP1065 can also be adapted to meet specific colour requirements.

Cost-effectiveness and efficient processing in production

The bioplastic is also convincing from an economic standpoint, as it can be easily processed on conventional injection moulding machines. Excellent flow and processing properties enable short cycle times and high process stability. Additionally, the high heat resistance of over 110 °C eliminates the need for tempering the capsules, saving both time and money. The ideal combination of high rigidity and toughness of the capsules also ensures reliable use in capsule machines.

Focus on sustainability: biobased and home-compostable.

One advantage in terms of sustainability is the home compatibility (the OK compost HOME certification is being sought), which allows it to be disposed of in domestic compost and also utilises the natural fertilising properties of coffee grounds in the biological cycle.

With a biobased content of over 98%, the partial carbon footprint is reduced compared to fossil-based plastic. In addition, this supports the bio-circular approach to substituting fossil raw materials – without compromising on processing and application.

Compared to the material previously developed for this application, it offers a significantly improved oxygen barrier, is home-compostable, and is over 98% biobased.
