It honours projects that combine scientific excellence with clearly recognizable benefits for society, the environment, and the economy. In doing so, they help shape the future of Germany as a business location, unlock economic potential\u00a0and create new jobs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-q6e3s5503\">The award ceremony will take place on November 19, 2025, in Berlin and will be broadcast by ZDF starting at 10:15 p.m.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"viewer-n5lgz33781\"><strong>From start-up to scale-up<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-lxj621130\">Since its founding in 2020, traceless\u00ae has grown from a research team to a 100-person scale-up, preparing to bring its material to market at scale. With commercial market entry planned for later this year, the company is set to deliver several thousand tons of material annually, meeting the growing demand for sustainable materials across Europe. traceless\u00ae cooperates with partners such as Mondi and OTTO and has already received numerous&nbsp;awards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Anne Lamp, CEO and co-founder of traceless materials<\/strong>, states,<em> &#8221;<\/em>The nomination for the\u00a0Deutscher Zukunftspreis\u00a0is\u00a0a great honour\u00a0for us\u00a0\u2013 and at the\u00a0same time a\u00a0confirmation\u00a0that\u00a0we\u00a0are on the right track with our work.\u00a0With\u00a0traceless\u00ae, we are\u00a0showing that\u00a0high-tech and\u00a0nature can go\u00a0hand in hand \u2014\u00a0and that sustainable innovation\u00a0is scalable and\u00a0economically\u00a0viable. Our\u00a0goal is to replace plastics on a large scale without sacrificing convenience or functionality, and in doing so make a real contribution to solving global plastic\u00a0pollution.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"viewer-04db51116\"><strong>Innovation against plastic pollution<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-pa1jy1119\">Worldwide, only nine percent of plastics are recycled. Around a quarter of plastic waste enters the environment, where it fragments into microplastics that persist and are now detectable in ecosystems and in the human body. This is because plastics &#8211; and also&nbsp;bioplastics &#8211; are based on synthetic polymers that do not occur in nature. Microorganisms lack the enzymes to break them down, so they cannot biodegrade and instead remain in the environment as microplastics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-2n2bj31453\">Nature itself, however, has&nbsp;long&nbsp;relied&nbsp;on polymers:&nbsp;plants,&nbsp;animals&nbsp;and&nbsp;microorganisms&nbsp;use&nbsp;natural&nbsp;polymers&nbsp;such&nbsp;as&nbsp;starch,&nbsp;cellulose, or&nbsp;proteins.&nbsp;These structures&nbsp;can&nbsp;be&nbsp;broken&nbsp;down by&nbsp;microorganisms&nbsp;and returned&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;natural&nbsp;cycle.&nbsp;Yet&nbsp;in their&nbsp;raw&nbsp;form, natural&nbsp;polymers&nbsp;are&nbsp;brittle, water-soluble, and lack thermoplastic&nbsp;properties&nbsp;&#8211; and are&nbsp;therefore&nbsp;unsuitable&nbsp;as&nbsp;technical&nbsp;materials, which&nbsp;need&nbsp;to&nbsp;be&nbsp;meltable&nbsp;and&nbsp;malleable&nbsp;like plastics.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/ee427a_e97c1c3487a14aefa6fe540719aadead~mv2.jpg\/v1\/fill\/w_255,h_383,al_c,q_80,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_avif,quality_auto\/ee427a_e97c1c3487a14aefa6fe540719aadead~mv2.jpg\" alt=\"traceless\u00ae materials \t\t\t\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">traceless\u00ae materials\u00a0\u00a9 Ansgar Pudenz\/Deutscher Zukunftspreis<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-2lqnz1123\">traceless\u00ae set out to bridge this gap by combining the logic of nature with the technical requirements of industry. With its patented process, the company extracts natural polymers from agricultural residues and functionalizes and granulates them. In this way, the natural structures are arranged to acquire&nbsp;thermoplastic properties &#8211; making traceless\u00ae the first to bring plastic-free thermoplastics to the market. The process is resource-efficient and low-energy, saving up to 90% of CO\u2082 emissions compared to the production and disposal of conventional plastics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-i1ztc22781\">The resulting granulates, traceless\u00ae materials, are biobased, plastic-free, and home-compostable. They can be processed on standard converting machines &#8211; as coatings on paper, through injection moulding&nbsp;into rigid parts, or by extrusion into films. The end products combine the functional properties of plastics &#8211; grease and water repellence, barrier functions, heat-sealability, and adhesion to paper &#8211; while avoiding their drawbacks. They are particularly suited to applications that are difficult to recycle,&nbsp;reuse,&nbsp;or are prone to ending up in the environment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-tsggq37251\">With this nomination, traceless\u00ae joins a list of groundbreaking German innovations.
