The Commission launched today (1 Aug) a\u00a0public consultation and the Call for Evidence for the upcoming Circular Economy Act<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It marks a significant step in the impact assessment process, which will enable the Commission to gather input from a wide range of stakeholders and the broader public, thereby better understanding the bottlenecks and opportunities for the wider deployment of a circular economy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Circular Economy Act aims to accelerate the transition to a more circular economy, increasing the EU\u2019s economic security, resilience, competitiveness and decarbonisation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due for adoption in 2026, it aims to establish a Single Market for secondary raw materials<\/strong>, increase the supply of high-quality recycled materials<\/strong> and stimulate demand for these materials in the EU<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This follows recommendations from the\u00a0Letta<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Draghi<\/a>\u00a0reports, industry (in the\u00a0Antwerp Declaration<\/a>), the European Council (Budapest Declaration<\/a>) and Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Circular Economy Act will contribute to the ambition set out in the Competitiveness Compass<\/a> and the Clean Industrial Deal<\/a> to make the EU the world leader on the circular economy by 2030 and to double the EU circularity rate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This consultation will also allow the Circular Economy Act to align with key EU initiatives, such as the\u202fCompetitiveness Compass<\/a>, the Single Market Strategy<\/a>, the Steel and Metals Action Plan<\/a>\u202fand the implementation of relevant recently adopted legislations, such as the Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation<\/a>, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation<\/a> and the Critical Raw Materials Act.<\/a>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the online consultation using the\u202fHave Your Say<\/a>\u00a0portal. The feedback period is open until 6 November 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
