One recent example is a Finnish collaboration in which a natural biocolorant derived from roasted coffee production side streams has been successfully used in flexographic printing on fibre-based bag made of Paptic\u00ae material.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is a joint effort between Natural Indigo Finland, Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Meira Oy, Cabassi Oy, and Paptic Ltd. &nbsp;A water-based ink made with a biocolorant derived from coffee waste was developed which is a renewable, natural alternative to the synthetic pigments typically used in packaging printing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The result, a flexo-printed bag using Paptic\u00ae as the fibre-based substrate and coloured with ink made from coffee production side streams, is a concrete example of the circular economy in action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis is a true circular economy solution. We\u2019ve taken what was once waste and upcycled it into value, replacing synthetic colorants with a fully bio-based pigment made from coffee,\u201d said&nbsp;<strong>Pasi Ainasoja, CEO of Natural Indigo Finland<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a coffee roastery committed to sustainability, we\u2019re proud that there is a new, alternative way to use this valuable raw material. On top of producing biogas from the side streams we can also utilize it for more sustainable packaging.
