{"id":163627,"date":"2025-05-28T07:29:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T05:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=163627"},"modified":"2025-05-23T15:06:04","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T13:06:04","slug":"magnon-power2x-and-erasmopower2x-to-explore-development-of-e-methanol-at-magnons-industrial-complex-in-puertollano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/magnon-power2x-and-erasmopower2x-to-explore-development-of-e-methanol-at-magnons-industrial-complex-in-puertollano\/","title":{"rendered":"Magnon, Power2X and ErasmoPower2X to explore development of e-methanol at Magnon\u2019s industrial complex in Puertollano"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Renewable fuels: The project aims to produce 200,000 tonnes of e-methanol per year.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Carbon capture: The project will capture an estimated 380,000 tonnes of biogenic CO\u2082 from the Magnon plant per year.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>An integrated value chain at the Puertollano valley:&nbsp;Green hydrogen production combined with carbon capture and methanol synthesis.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Magnon, a renewable energy company subsidiary of the Ence group, Power2X and ErasmoPower2X have signed an agreement to explore the development of an e-methanol plant at Magnon\u2019s industrial complex in Puertollano, Ciudad Real.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Around 380,000 tonnes of biogenic CO\u2082 will be captured each year, which is equivalent to the amount of carbon captured annually by around 15 million trees, enabling, amongst others, the annual production of 200,000 tonnes of synthetic methanol. This non-fossil feedstock enables the decarbonization of hard-to-electrify sectors such as aviation, shipping and chemicals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the initial phase of the agreement, the parties will jointly conduct a detailed feasibility study of the carbon capture and e-methanol synthesis. Magnon will oversee the integration of carbon capture into its existing biomass plant, while Power2X and ErasmoPower2X will manage the hydrogen supply integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Renewable hydrogen production<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The feasibility of producing renewable hydrogen on-site at Magnon\u2019s industrial complex in Puertollano as well as the supply of green hydrogen from ErasmoPower2X facilities in Saceruela, Ciudad Real via the hydrogen backbone will both be assessed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Spanish renewable fuel production<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This e-methanol project will be a major driver of Spain\u2019s future renewable fuel production. It will also stimulate economic activity and the creation of high-quality jobs in the region. Additionally, the initiative aims to support Spain\u2019s strategic industries and facilitate investment in new green molecule value chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Guillermo Negro, CEO of Magnon Green Energy<\/strong>, commented: \u201cAs the leading biomass company and largest biogenic CO<sub>2<\/sub>&nbsp;producer in Spain, we are excited to keep on contributing towards energy independence of Spain and Europe.
