Our latest&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/news\/annual-report-2024-published#:~:text=Image%3A%20The%20Borealis%20Group%20Annual%20Report%202024%20is,of%20the%20financial%20report%20and%20the%20non-financial%20statement.\">Annual Report<\/a> shows circular production capacity rising by 18% compared to the previous year, reaching 227,900 metric tons, while the volume of circular feedstock processed nearly doubled to 221,200 metric tons.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside these capacity increases, Borealis strengthened its circular product portfolio, supporting customers across an even wider range of sectors to reduce their environmental impact. New introductions included ten&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/circular-economy\/bornewables\">Bornewables<sup>TM<\/sup><\/a> grades based on renewable feedstock, seven <a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/circular-economy\/borcycle\/borcycle-c\">Borcycle<sup>TM<\/sup> C<\/a> grades based on chemical recycling, and four&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/circular-economy\/borcycle\/borcycle-m\">Borcycle<sup>TM<\/sup>  M<\/a> grades based on advanced mechanical recycling, as well as materials designed for reuse and recycling. This progress has been achieved despite a challenging economic climate and ongoing uncertainty around regulation in Europe, where short-term demand for recycled polymers has stagnated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key capacity and technology milestones in 2024<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Borealis\u2019 significant increase in circular production capacity in 2024 was underpinned by a number of strategic investments and acquisitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/news\/borealis-further-expands-its-advanced-mechanical-recycling-capacity-with-closing-the-acquisition-of-integra-plastics-ad\">acquisition of Integra Plastics AD&nbsp;in Bulgaria<\/a> added more than 20,000 metric tons of advanced mechanical recycling capacity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/news\/borealis-to-establish-recyclate-based-polyolefins-compounding-line-in-belgium\">In Beringen, Belgium, the construction of a new semi-commercial compunding line was announced<\/a>, expanding our recyclate processing capabilities and providing valuable operational experience and technological insight into recyclate handling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also invested EUR 4.5 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/news\/borealis-invests-eur-4-5-million-in-porvoo-steam-cracker-enabling-increased-share-of-circular-raw-materials-used-in-production\">in&nbsp;upgrading a steam cracker in Porvoo, Finland<\/a> to enable increased use of circular and renewable feedstocks, and signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/news\/omv-and-borealis-sign-long-term-supply-agreements-with-tomra-for-recycling-feedstock-produced-from-mixed-waste-2\">long-term supply agreement with TOMRA<\/a> to ensure a consistent supply of sustainable raw materials for recycling operations. Borealis also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/news\/fda-clears-borealis-borcycle-m-recycled-plastics-for-use-in-food-grade-packaging\">formed a new partnership with e-fuels leader Infinium<\/a> who converts captured carbon emissions into feedstocks for the production of plastics with a low carbon footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Circular progress across products and applications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Important progress was made across Borealis\u2019 circular portfolios in 2024, with product launches, key approvals, and breakthrough applications across core markets.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In consumer goods, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/news\/fda-clears-borealis-borcycle-m-recycled-plastics-for-use-in-food-grade-packaging\">we&nbsp;secured FDA clearance for selected BorcycleTM M grades<\/a> to be used in food and cosmetics packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In automotive, we launched a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/news\/borealis-introduces-glass-fiber-reinforced-pp-with-65-pcr-for-demanding-automotive-applications\">Borcycle M-based glass fiber reinforced PP grade with 65% PCR<\/a>. In addition,&nbsp;a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/news\/from-old-tires-to-new-car-parts-neste-borealis-and-covestro-aim-at-closing-the-loop-for-automotive-industry\">collaboration with Neste and Covestro advanced the end-of-life processing of tires<\/a>, enabling them to be chemically recycled into materials that can be used in new car parts such as headlamps or grilles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In infrastructure, a value chain collaboration with Pipelife and Wiener Wasser led to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/news\/drinking-water-pressure-pipes-made-from-chemically-recycled-plastic-installed-in-vienna-austria\">chemically recycled drinking water pipes<\/a> being installed in Austria.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the energy sector, we<a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/news\/borealis-to-unveil-first-of-its-kind-sustainable-cable-jacketing-solution\"> introduced a&nbsp;first-of-its-kind Borcycle<sup>TM<\/sup>-based jacketing solution for low- and medium voltage cables<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Borealis achieved another important milestone with the first commercial sales from its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/circular-economy\/borvida\">Borvida<sup>TM<\/sup><\/a> portfolio of circular base chemicals. Borvida C, made from chemically recycled post-consumer waste, and Borvida B Ethylene, derived from non-food waste biomass, were sold for the first time in 2024, helping to advance circularity in the chemicals supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re proud of the substantial progress we made this year &#8211; growing our circular capacity and serving our customers with bespoke solutions ,\u201d says <strong>Dirk Langhammer, Borealis<\/strong> Vice President Circular Economy Solutions. \u201cThese achievements show we\u2019re not just talking about circularity &#8211; we\u2019re executing our plans as part of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.borealisgroup.com\/about-us\/strategy\">our We4Customers strategy <\/a>through innovation, investment, and ambitious partnerships . We deliver timely, value-added solutions that support our customers to become more sustainable.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Driving circularity from design to end-of-life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These advances reflect Borealis\u2019 approach to enable circularity across the value chain\u2014from developing materials which are more resource &#8211; and processing-efficient and designed with maximum recyclability in mind, to the increased the use of mechanically &#8211; and chemically-recycled and renewable feedstocks, and continuously improving end-of-life recycling technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Borealis also drives the development of waste collection infrastructure in regions where such systems are lacking. In Indonesia, Project STOP, co-founded with Systemiq, creates sustainable waste management systems that prevent plastics from leaking into the environment and oceans. From its launch in 2017 to the end of 2024, it has provided waste collection access to over 517,000 people, collected 79,000 metric tons of waste &#8211; including 12,000 metric tons of plastic &#8211; and created around 280 full-time jobs in the local waste sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Looking ahead<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Borealis remains committed to help its customers adopt more circular practices with a full portfolio of high-quality circular solutions for key end markets.
