PlasticsFatE is tackling this head-on with actionable solutions. A\u00a0key milestone has been the release of our first policy brief,\u00a0“Setting the Standard for Plastic\u00a0Exposure and Hazard Assessment.”\u00a0This document lays the groundwork for creating standardized\u00a0guidelines to evaluate the risks and hazards of plastic exposure, a critical step toward informed and\u00a0effective regulatory frameworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’re proud to announce the publication of\u00a0our first policy brief, \u201cHarmonization and\u00a0Standardization in Plastic Exposure and Hazard\u00a0Assessment<\/a>.\u201d The first in a series of four, this\u00a0policy brief tackles critical issues surrounding\u00a0micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs), shedding light\u00a0on their pervasive impact on human health,\u00a0and the pressing need for unified\u00a0methodologies in their study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PlasticsFatE Partner Attends Crucial Negotiations at UN Global Plastics Treaty<\/h3>\n\n\n

The 5th round of negotiations (INC-5) for a Global Plastics Treaty under the framework of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) concluded in Busan, South Korea, at the beginning of December. This pivotal event gathered representatives from over 150 countries alongside stakeholders from industry, civil society, and science, all united by a shared mission to end plastic pollution\u2014a threat to environmental health, biodiversity, and the climate.

Dr. Dana K\u00fchnel, an ecotoxicologist from the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) and a key partner\/Work Package leader in the PlasticsFatE project, played an active role in these discussions as part of the\u00a0Scientists\u2019 Coalition for an Effective Plastics Treaty<\/em>.\u00a0
