Industrial biotechnology companies such as Genencor, Gevo, Amyris, and Genomatica want to give tire manufacturers a third option: biobased rubber ingredients made from sugar.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Microbial fermentation holds promise for making three renewable rubber intermediates: isoprene, isobutene, and butadiene.
