Sugarcane ethanol, for instance, is used in the manufacture of bioethylene in the bioplastics segment. In the same segment, sugarcane is also one of the feedstocks for polylactic acid, such as at PURAC’s 75,000 tonne facility in Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In the organic acid sector, molasses and sugarcane juice but also raw sugar itself serve as the basis of citric acid, lysine or monosodium glutamate on large scale, mainly in Brazil and Asian countries. Due to the importance of sugar products for the renewable chemicals sector it is worth taking a look at the prospects for the global 2011/12 sugar production and some major countries in particular, especially with respect to cane sugar. Developments in global sugar production are indicative for the availability of sugar-related products for the renewable chemicals industry.

… Full text: renewablechemicals.agra-net.com/2011/10/implications-of-a-rising-201112-sugar-output-for-renewable-chemicals/

Keywords: sugar beet, global sugar output, cane sugar, bagasse, molasses, by-products

Sugar and its related products are currently major feedstock sources for the renewable chemicals industry and are applied in various fields of the sector.
