{"id":15050,"date":"2011-01-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-01-11T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bio-based.eu\/news\/index.php?startid=20110112-02n"},"modified":"2011-01-12T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-01-11T22:00:00","slug":"biopolymers-part-of-dupont-danisco-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/biopolymers-part-of-dupont-danisco-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"Biopolymers part of DuPont-Danisco deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>In a chemical industry deal with implications in the field of bio-based plastics, DuPont announced on 9 January that it had entered into an agreement to buy Danish enzyme and specialty food ingredients company Danisco for $6.3bn (\u20ac4.8bn).<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If the deal goes through, US-based DuPont would pay $5.8bn (\u20ac4.4bn) in cash and assume $500m (\u20ac383m) of Danisco\u2019s net debt.<\/p>\n<p>DuPont said the acquisition would give it a leadership position in products that address global food challenges and that reduce fossil fuel consumption.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman and CEO Ellen Kullman said biotechnology and specialty food ingredients &#8220;have the potential to change the landscape of industries, such as substituting renewable materials for fossil fuel processes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>DuPont and Danisco\u2019s Genencor enzymes division already worked together to develop Sorona, a biodegradable polyester.<\/p>\n<p>Bio-based plastics have grown to play an important part in DuPont\u2019s plastics portfolio.
