In\u00a02021, more than\u00a02,000\u00a0European com\u00adpan\u00adies applied for fund\u00ading. Elec\u00adtro\u00adchaea has been one of only\u00a064\u00a0start-ups and SMEs selec\u00adted based on their impress\u00adive projects.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The com\u00adpany has developed a\u00a0tech\u00adno\u00adlogy to pro\u00adduce syn\u00adthet\u00adic meth\u00adane. As an energy source, syn\u00adthet\u00adic meth\u00adane is vir\u00adtu\u00adally CO<sub>2<\/sub>-neut\u00adral, can replace fossil nat\u00adur\u00adal gas and can be stored and trans\u00adpor\u00adted in the existing gas grid. To pro\u00adduce it, Elec\u00adtro\u00adchaea uses archaea, bil\u00adlion-year-old microor\u00adgan\u00adisms, that con\u00advert green hydro\u00adgen and recycled\u00a0CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0into syn\u00adthet\u00adic meth\u00adane in bioreactors.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the fund\u00ading provided, a\u00a0grant of \u20ac2.485\u00a0mil\u00adlion and an equity invest\u00adment of \u20ac14.975\u00a0mil\u00adlion, Elec\u00adtro\u00adchaea has been able to scale up its bio\u00admeth\u00adana\u00adtion tech\u00adno\u00adlogy to indus\u00adtri\u00adal scale with an arche\u00adtype design of\u00a010\u00a0MWe. The imple\u00adment\u00ada\u00adtion will take place dir\u00adectly with\u00adin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrochaea.com\/projects\/\">the BioCat-Roslev pro\u00adject<\/a> in Den\u00admark. There, the new arche\u00adtype design will be integ\u00adrated into the exist\u00ading oper\u00ada\u00adtion of a\u00a0bio\u00adgas upgrad\u00ading and grid-injec\u00adtion plant. The Dan\u00adish Energy Agency also sub\u00adsid\u00adized the pro\u00adject with \u20ac9.5\u00a0mil\u00adlion to expand hydro\u00adgen production.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With fund\u00ading from the\u00a0EIC\u00a0Accel\u00ader\u00adat\u00ador pro\u00adgram, Elec\u00adtro\u00adchaea has been able to optim\u00adize the plant design making it more effi\u00adcient and cost-effect\u00adive. Cus\u00adtom\u00aders will bene\u00adfit from sig\u00adni\u00adfic\u00adantly reduced\u00a0CAPEX\u00a0and\u00a0OPEX\u00a0of the bio\u00admeth\u00adana\u00adtion tech\u00adno\u00adlogy.
