Across DOE,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/eere\/bioenergy\/beto-selects-13-small-businesses-develop-innovative-bio-based-products-and-biomass\">229 projects in 39 states received $52 million<\/a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;pursue clean energy research and development (R&amp;D), and&nbsp;eventual demonstration projects. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/eere\/bioenergy\/bioenergy-technologies-office\">Bioenergy Technologies Office<\/a>&nbsp;(BETO) selected 13 small businesses working to accelerate bioenergy R&amp;D. The companies, located across&nbsp;10 states, have been selected to receive up to $206,500 each for this Phase I SBIR&nbsp;award.&nbsp;Of the 13 BETO awards, six are first-time awardees, four are located in Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) zones, two are in socially and economically disadvantaged areas, and one is a woman-owned business.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The awards under the two BETO&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/science.osti.gov\/-\/media\/sbir\/pdf\/funding\/2024\/FY24-Phase-I-Release-2-TopicsV701182024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">topics<\/a> include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sustainable Biomass Conversion to Bio-Based<\/strong><em><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em><strong>Materials&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013 Regulations are emerging in the U.S. and worldwide that necessitate sustainable replacements to commonly used materials such as foam, adhesives, resins, and others. BETO supports efforts to decarbonize the industrial sector to produce cost-effective and sustainable chemicals, materials, and processes utilizing biomass and waste resources.
