Vega SIA has taken the green route in a plan to diversify its operations as it moves into the manufacture of extruded wood plastics composite (WPC) products. Traditionally, a thermoformer of plastics containers for dairy foods and meat, the Riga, Latvia-based company invested in a new WPC extrusion line supplied by German machinery builder Reifenhauser Extrusion.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Vega has begun extruding eco-friendly hollow profile window sills made from the wood fibre and polymer composite at its Riga plant. Conventional firewood pellets make up a substantial part of the material processed to make fully recyclable products.<\/p>\n<p>The resulting lightweight, low priced window component demonstrates outstanding heat insulation properties, according to Reifenhauser of Troisdorf, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>The Vega WPC line is based on the supplier&#8217;s twin-screw Bitruder 92 extruder which is equipped with counter-rotating intermeshing screws to offer optimum conditions for processing the mix of wood fibre and polymers like polyethylene and polypropylene.<\/p>\n<p>Reifenhauser, which also recently supplied WPC line equipment in China, said it expects to announce two further supply contracts for WPC lines in the Baltic country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><b>Latvian packaging producer N.V.
