{"id":14574,"date":"2008-04-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-04-08T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bio-based.eu\/news\/index.php?startid=20080409-02n"},"modified":"2018-02-21T10:20:39","modified_gmt":"2018-02-21T09:20:39","slug":"finnish-german-research-project-on-functional-bio-composites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/finnish-german-research-project-on-functional-bio-composites\/","title":{"rendered":"Finnish-German Research Project on Functional Bio-composites"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>The Swedish Institute of Composites <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sicomp.se\/\">Swerea Sicomp<\/a> has started the project &#8220;Functional fibre reinforced bio-composites&#8221; (Funfirebic), an ERA-NET project within the EU\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.woodwisdom.net\/\">WoodWisdom-Net<\/a> programme.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The project has been initiated by partners from the earlier EU project <a href=\"http:\/\/biocompac.vtt.fi\/\">Biocompac<\/a>, which concerned development of biobased materials and composites for the packaging industry, and is being undertaken together with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biomer.de\/\">Biomer<\/a> (Germany), Oy Keskuslaboratorio \u2013 Centrallaboratorium AB (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcl.fi\/\">KCL<\/a>, Finland), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.all-plast.fi\/\">Oy All-Plast AB<\/a> (Finland), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elastopoli.fi\/\">Elastopoli Oy<\/a> (Finland) and Technical Research Centre of Finland (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vtt.fi\/\">VTT<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Funfirebic is based on promising results from the earlier project. The aim is to develop bio-composite material from functionalized wood fibres and biobased thermoplastics. Enzymatic and chemical methods are used to functionalize the wood fibres. The project will involve development of both materials and processes.
