With “ZeCarb”, Messer is responding to the growing global demand for solutions to reduce CO2<\/sub> emissions in industrial processes. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA, iea.org), 1.2 gigatonnes of CO2<\/sub> emissions must be prevented each year through Carbon Capture Utilization & Storage (CCUS) alone in order to achieve the net zero scenario by 2050. Messer is making a contribution to this with its new “ZeCarb” service, drawing on decades of experience in the field of CO2<\/sub> recovery. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Messer captures CO2 <\/sub>emissions – for example from steel, cement, glass, paper or chemical production or from fossil-fired power plants for electricity and heat generation – before they are released into the atmosphere. The recovered CO2<\/sub> is then used in applications that aim to reduce the use of fossil fuels. For example, in the production of synthetic fuels, so-called eFuels, or sustainable aviation fuels. As an alternative to utilization, the recovered CO2<\/sub> is permanently stored in geological formations underground. Particularly depleted oil and gas fields, which have stored a mixture of natural gas, nitrogen and CO2<\/sub> for millions of years, are used for this purpose. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
