{"id":14174,"date":"2006-04-19T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-04-18T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bio-based.eu\/news\/index.php?startid=20060419-06n"},"modified":"2006-04-19T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2006-04-18T22:00:00","slug":"chinese-company-from-hong-kong-to-build-packaging-factory-in-brazil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/chinese-company-from-hong-kong-to-build-packaging-factory-in-brazil\/","title":{"rendered":"Chinese company from Hong Kong to build packaging factory in Brazil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Chinese packaging company, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rootsbiopack.com\/\" >Roots Biopack<\/a>, which is headquartered in Hong Kong, plans to invest US$4 million in building a packaging factory in Brazil this year, the company said.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian unit, the Chinese company&#8217;s first foreign factory, will produce paper packaging using sugar-cane bagasse, the company&#8217;s chairman, Gerald Lau said.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman told Friday&#8217;s edition of Brazilian financial daily Valor Econ\u00f3mico that representatives of Roots Biopack would visit Brazil in June to begin negotiations with the aim of finding local partners and suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of sugar-cane bagasse is 50 percent less than the traditional raw material used for producing cardboard packages.<\/p>\n<p>Another advantage is that this type of package is biodegradable, within six montsh fo its use, which is in line with increasing concerns about environmental conservation, said Lau.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In two years, the world packaging market will go through great change,\u201d said the Roots Biopack chairman.<\/p>\n<p>Lau also said that the Chinese group planned to build other units in the future in Mexico, Malaysia and Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>In China, the company controls a unit with a capacity to produce up to 2,000 tons of paper packaging per month.<\/p>\n<p>Roots Biopack is currently spending US$150 million on a new unit in China with a production capacity of 200,000 tons per month, which is due to begin production in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1995, the Roots Biopack group includes amongst its customers sneaker manufacturers Mizumo, as well as US fast food chain McDonald&#8217;s in Asia and France\u2019s Carrefour supermarket chain in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to invest in Brazil is the result of the availability of sugar-cane bagasse in Brazil, as it is a byproduct of biofuel production.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Brazil ahs the largest program in the world for substituting oil for renewable fuels that have lower carbon emissions into the atmosphere.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><b>Chinese packaging company, Roots Biopack, which is headquartered in Hong Kong, plans to invest US$4 million in building a packaging factory in Brazil this year,<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_seopress_robots_primary_cat":"","nova_meta_subtitle":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5572],"tags":[],"supplier":[],"class_list":["post-14174","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-bio-based"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14174","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=14174"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14174\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=14174"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=14174"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=14174"},{"taxonomy":"supplier","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/supplier?post=14174"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
