{"id":141370,"date":"2024-03-27T07:20:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-27T06:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=141370"},"modified":"2024-03-22T13:22:12","modified_gmt":"2024-03-22T12:22:12","slug":"irish-agribusiness-group-clonbio-to-invest-500m-in-us-biorefinery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/irish-agribusiness-group-clonbio-to-invest-500m-in-us-biorefinery\/","title":{"rendered":"Irish agribusiness group ClonBio to invest $500m in US biorefinery"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<p>Irish agribusiness group ClonBio is to invest $500 million (\u20ac457 million) in a US biorefinery in a move expected to support more than 1,000 jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"845\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2024\/03\/Bildschirmfoto-2024-03-22-um-11.05.10.png\" alt=\"Irish-owned renewable energy firm ClonBio operates Europe\u2019s largest grain-based biorefinery. \" class=\"wp-image-141382\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.7864693446088795;width:799px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2024\/03\/Bildschirmfoto-2024-03-22-um-11.05.10.png 845w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2024\/03\/Bildschirmfoto-2024-03-22-um-11.05.10-300x168.png 300w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2024\/03\/Bildschirmfoto-2024-03-22-um-11.05.10-150x84.png 150w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2024\/03\/Bildschirmfoto-2024-03-22-um-11.05.10-768x430.png 768w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2024\/03\/Bildschirmfoto-2024-03-22-um-11.05.10-400x224.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 845px) 100vw, 845px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Irish-owned renewable energy firm ClonBio operates Europe\u2019s largest grain-based biorefinery.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>ClonBio earns revenues of about \u20ac400 million a year making proteins, animal feed, biofuel, ethanol and alcohol from grain in Europe and the US, and&nbsp;renewable gas at a plant in Co Kildare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement on Monday, it said it was planning a \u201cdramatic increase\u201d in its investment in a \u201cformerly mothballed biorefinery\u201d it acquired in Jefferson,&nbsp;Wisconsin in mid-2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The planned half-billion dollar cumulative investment will support more than 1,000 local jobs and support grain farmer incomes and the state economy \u201cfor&nbsp;decades to come\u201d, the group said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement was just one of a number made during Enterprise Ireland\u2019s programme of business events in the US for St Patrick\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ClonBio contracted to purchase a mothballed ethanol plant in Wisconsin several months prior to the passage of US president Joe Biden\u2019s Inflation Reduction&nbsp;Act.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the last 18 months, it has invested $100 million in the acquisition and upgrading of the plant, which is now the largest grain processing facility in&nbsp;Wisconsin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In light of the various incentives contained in the new law, ClonBio is planning to \u201crapidly accelerate\u201d an additional $400 million investment programme over the&nbsp;coming years rather than over the course of the decade, as originally planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the same Enterprise Ireland programme, Irish ESG management company Climeaction and sports-tech company Output Sports have announced&nbsp;expansions of their US operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leo Clancy, CEO of Enterprise Ireland, said: \u201cIrish companies are scaling internationally at an accelerated pace, establishing new presences, and making&nbsp;significant investments and acquisitions in international markets, to serve their growing international customer base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTheir growth internationally, strengthens their business, delivering job creation in Ireland and boosts Ireland\u2019s economy. Irish businesses account for two-thirds&nbsp;of Irish jobs, and we are focused on further strengthening this position. They are the economic cornerstones in communities across Ireland.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At SXSW Austin, Texas, this week, Enterprise Ireland will also showcase Irish companies in film, technology, future mobility, and the commercial creative&nbsp;sector, at Ireland House at SXSW, which is a Department of Foreign Affairs and cross-government agency initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elsewhere, Irish sports tech enterprise Sportskey announced its new US Midwest presence, based in Chicago.
