{"id":13914,"date":"2005-09-21T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2005-09-20T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bio-based.eu\/news\/index.php?startid=20050921-05n"},"modified":"2005-09-21T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2005-09-20T22:00:00","slug":"amcor-and-husky-using-renewable-materials-for-bottles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/amcor-and-husky-using-renewable-materials-for-bottles\/","title":{"rendered":"Amcor and Husky using renewable materials for bottles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amcor.com\/\" >Amcor PET Packaging<\/a> is working with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.husky.ca\/\" >Husky<\/a> to develop a European market for compostable PLA bottles for applications such as still mineral water, vegetable oils and dairy products.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Amcor PET Packaging Europe\u2019s marketing communications manager Frans van Dooren said: &#8220;The market for PLA bottles is attracting a lot of attention in Europe and consumers are starting to show an interest in packaging made from renewable resources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Husky, a strategic partner in the development, demonstrated production of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.natureworkspla.com\/\" >Natureworks PLA<\/a> preforms on a HyPet 90 moulding system on its stand at last week\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drinktec.de\/\" >Drinktec<\/a> exhibition in Munich.<\/p>\n<p>Van Dooren told that Amcor is at an advanced stage of development with a PLA bottle project for at least one major European customer. However, he said that pricing remains an issue.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;PLA price is a bit of a show stopper today but this is temporary,\u201d van Dooren said. He believes that as volumes build the price gap will close, while PLA users will also gain from a more stable pricing structure.<\/p>\n<p>EPN\u2019s Bioplastics conference, the longest established forum for the global biopolymers industry, takes place in Frankfurt in December.
