{"id":13679,"date":"2003-07-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2003-07-28T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bio-based.eu\/news\/index.php?startid=20030729-01n"},"modified":"2003-07-29T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2003-07-28T22:00:00","slug":"australia-focus-changes-to-hemp-mill-location","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/australia-focus-changes-to-hemp-mill-location\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia: Focus changes to hemp mill location"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the continuing expansion of commercial hemp trials in Queensland attention is now turning to the location of a hemp mill.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecofibre.com.au\/\" >Eco-Fibre Industries\u2019<\/a> managing director Phil Warner says trials in Kingaroy, Dalby, Murgon, Childers and Mackay will all be expanded during the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>He says the latest trials will change the focus to refining potential yields and increasing dryland cropping production of hemp.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Warner says capital investment of about $7 million should be raised to build a commercial hemp mill within 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s all very well having the legislation, even having the right seed stock and also having markets which do exist,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I mean, presently we\u2019re importing fibre from France and Germany to make products here, but the problem is that we don\u2019t have a separation mill, so it\u2019s a bit like having cane or cotton without having a gin or a sugar mill.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So until we\u2019ve got that in place it\u2019s a bit of a stall on actual commercial production.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2003, Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
