The plant would manufacture platform chemical levoglucosenone (LGO), biochar and bio-based solvent Cyrene\u2122 from sustainable biomass feedstocks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vataset is developing the Kemijarvi site as a comprehensive biopark for renewable materials, fuel and chemicals based on circular economy principles and strong environmental values. Kemijarvi Biorefinery specialises in biomass processing and the companies are seeking partners to effectively utilise all side streams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Formerly the site of a Stora Enso pulp mill in Northern Finland, the area has a long industrial history with the pulp and paper sector and is close to the natural resources needed to supply a large and sustainable&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kemijarvibiopark.fi\/en\/kemijarvi_biopark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">industrial biopark development<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Tony Duncan, Circa CEO<\/strong> said,<em>\u00a0<\/em>\u201cFinland has a long history in the forest-based industries and\u00a0the Kemijarvi site has the necessary skills, feedstock, logistics and infrastructure to support\u00a0Circa \u2013 combined importantly with a vision of circularity and low-carbon developments.\u00a0Circa\u2019s strategy is to identify a small number of development sites globally to serve adjacent\u00a0regional markets with levoglucosenone derivatives including our green solvent Cyrene\u2122.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vataset CEO, Harri Vatanen<\/strong> said,\u00a0\u201cTechnology like Circa\u2019s is essential for making the\u00a0transition to renewable and more environmentally-friendly materials.
