{"id":132187,"date":"2023-09-22T07:07:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-22T05:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/?p=132187"},"modified":"2023-09-21T10:20:25","modified_gmt":"2023-09-21T08:20:25","slug":"greenback-buys-laminate-plastics-recycling-firm-enval","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/greenback-buys-laminate-plastics-recycling-firm-enval\/","title":{"rendered":"Greenback buys laminate plastics recycling firm Enval"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<p>The deal will see the combined company headed by Greenback chief executive Philippe von Stauffenberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The companies have merged their operations in plastics recycling and said the deal followed the inauguration of a pioneering recycling plant that uses Enval&#8217;s microwave-induced pyrolysis technology (pictured) in Cuautla, M\u00e9xico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enval was incorporated as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrw.co.uk\/archive\/enval-a-history-12-02-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a spin-out from Cambridge University in 2006<\/a>. It launched its first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrw.co.uk\/home\/pouches-recycling-plant-to-start-commercial-operations-01-11-2013\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">commercial-scale laminated plastics\/aluminium recycling plant in Luton in 2013.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Greenback said the new company will focus on hard-to-recycle post-consumer plastic packaging waste. It will also provide feedstock for new food-grade packaging with recycled content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Von Stauffenberg said: &#8220;With Enval\u2019s breakthrough microwave-induced technology we transform flexible plastics into pyrolysis oil, \u03c0-Oil, which can be used for recycled content for new food packaging.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe process also allows the recycling of another valuable raw material, aluminium, when it is present in multi-layered flexible packaging. This merger is a significant milestone for Greenback and Enval, and we look forward to the opportunities it will bring.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enval chief executive Carlos Ludlow-Palafox said: &#8220;For some time, we have been operating closely together [with Greenback] on the construction of the plant in Mexico and this merger cements that relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the combination of Enval&#8217;s expertise in chemical recycling and Greenback&#8217;s operational and business development experience would reduce plastic pollution both on land and at sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Greenback is based in the UK and was founded by Von Stauffenberg in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mexico facility was opened in partnership with Nestl\u00e9.
